Treatments for Pigmentation
Pigmentation is a skin condition characterised by patches of skin that appear darker than the surrounding skin due to an excessive level of melanin that can be found on the surface of skin.
The most common forms of pigmentation issues are age spots, post-acne pigmentation, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, solar lentigines (also known as sun spots), melasma and freckles. Leading causes of pigmentation are sun damage, hormonal changes and sometimes even as a side-effect of some medication/laser treatments.
It is crucial to have an accurate diagnosis of the type of pigmentation to decide on which type of treatment to commence on. When pigmentation issues are treated successfully, skin no longer appears dull but instead clearer, brighter and often more youthful.
